NORFOLK, Neb (KTIV/US92) -
The Norfolk, Nebraska Theatre that Johnny Carson helped build is going to be the new host site of the Nebraska School Activities Association State One-Act Play competition.
Norfolk tourism officials made the announcement Thursday.
The Norfolk Area Visitor's Bureau says the Johnny Carson Theater at Norfolk Senior High will be the site of the State One-Act Play Championships for the next two years.
Mike Fuehrer of the Norfolk Area Sports Council says the NSAA awarded the bid to Norfolk for events in December 2013 and December 2014.
Fuehrer says the competition will also bring about a big economic impact. He says the State One-Act competition will draw 34 play-production teams from six classes over the course of three days.
Organizers are expecting more than 1,000 competitors and coaches along with thousands more to watch the competition.
Visitor's Bureau officials say they will be ready to roll out the red carpet.
