The Dordt College Defenders advanced to the quarterfinal round of the NAIA Division II Men's
Basketball National Basketball Tournament with a 75-62 win over Indiana Wesleyan on Friday
The Defenders were able to sustain a double digit lead most of the second half in an intense,
physical match-up that resulted in Dordt's 28th win of the season in 34 starts.
"We did a good job early of matching Indiana Wesleyan's intensity and physicality," said Dordt College coach Ross Douma.
The lead grew to as many as 13 in the first half before Dordt went into the locker room up
Dordt converted 28-50 shots from the field and they were 13-19 from the free throw line. Dordt converted 9-23 three-point shots. Indiana Wesleyan was 24-63 from the field for 38 percent and made just 1-12 three-point attempts.
"We were efficient on offense," said Douma. "When we attacked the gut with Shawn and Trevor we had success."
Trevor Wolterstorff had a team high 21 points on 7-11 field goal shooting and he converted
7-10 free throws. Austin Katje had 16 points and made four three-point shots and Shawn Keizer came off the bench for 13. Jordan Vogel completed the double digit scoring with 10 points.
Wolterstorff had eight rebounds and Keizer six with four assists. Vogel, Warner and Katje all had four rebounds and Warner dished nine assists.
Chris Sievers went over 1,000 points for his career with his first field goal of the game. He's the fourth member of this year's team to reach the 1,000 point plateau.
"This was a very physical game," noted Dordt Head Coach Ross Douma, "We didn't shoot a free
throw until midway through the second half but our guys did a good job of staying composed
and weathered through it."
Dordt will play in the quarterfinal round of the tournament at 3:00 Saturday afternoon. This is the second year in a row Dordt has made it to the round of eight.
