Justices hear arguments on drunk driving case in Sioux City

Iowa supreme court justices take their case load on the road.  the seven justices heard arguments on a drunk driving case from northwest Iowa on the Morningside college campus Tuesday night. The justices say the state Supreme Court has made it a mission to get out into communities and show people how Iowa's highest court works.  Wednesday morning, the justices will head to high schools in Sioux City, Sloan, Mapleton, and Ida Grove to share their experience with students.

Rural taxes rise under budget approved by Woodbury County supervisors

Woodbury County Supervisors have approved $3.4 million in cuts to the next fiscal budget.  The spending plan includes a drop in tax rates for people who live in cities, but an increase for rural residents to help pay for bridge repairs.  Mental health services took one of the biggest hits during the budget process, losing more than $650,000.

Le Mars, IA students take part in mock papal conclave

Students at Gehlen Catholic High School in Le Mars have a better appreciation for the process of picking a new pope.  They staged a mock conclave in the classroom on Tuesday and voted on secret ballots for one of 16 cardinals.  As was the case at the Vatican, no candidate received two-thirds of the necessary vote.  They'll try again Wednesday.
