A seal in Japan is getting a very distinct honor.

Tottori City in western Japan has awarded citizenship to a seal that's taken up residence in a local lake.  The seal was seen for the first time in three days warming itself in the springtime sun.

The animal will be a mascot at publicity events for the city.  Japanese towns and cities have increasingly used animals to boost their profiles.
