$85,000 funded by members in Women United handed out to community groups helping youths.
SIOUX CITY, Iowa (KTIV) -
United Way of Siouxland's Women United gave out $85,000 to ten groups to help make the community a better place.
The Food Bank of Siouxland was awarded the highest amount of money, $20,000 for their Backpack Program. The program distributes weekend food supplies to qualified low-income students at Siouxland elementary schools.
"This will all go towards food, and our budget for this year is over $110,000, just for food alone. So you can see how that $20,000 donation takes a big bite out of that bill and will make such a difference for those children who rely on that food sack on Friday," Linda Scheid, Food Bank of Siouxland Executive Director said.
Other groups that got money are the YouthBuild Skills and Grills, the Food 4 Kids program, the Iowa KidsSight program, the Youth Oral Health Outreach and Early Dental Home, and Horses Healing Hearts. Five other programs in the area, received a total of $15,000.
