Le Mars, IA (KTIV) -
Nearly 100 scrap bookers from around Siouxland gathered today for a good cause.
The annual fundraiser formerly known as "Siouxland Crop for the Cure," which focused solely on breast cancer, has a new approach this year.
The event name was changed to "Scrappin' Divas," and now takes a broader approach by raising money and awareness to cure all types of cancer.
The 6th annual event took place at the Convention Center in Le Mars, Iowa.
And attendees shared stories, enjoyed a silent auction, dinner, scrapbook vendors, massages, and even a surprise performance by Jill Miller.
The event not only received a new name this year, but it also gained a well-known beneficiary.
"We have partnered with June E. Nylen, and in the past as we solicit, we look for things people say. Pink is important, but it also is in our face. What about other cancers? And so, it hit us, and while pink and breast cancer is very important to me personally, so is finding a cure for all cancers," said Founder of Scrappin' Divas, Jamee Carlson.
The June E. Nylen Cancer Center agreed to help support Scrappin' Divas after their transition to support the fight of all cancers.
And they are excited to be a part of the yearly gathering.
"We, of course, had already heard all about the "Crop for the Cure," but to be involved and to be an beneficiary was really good news for us, " said Director of Fund Development for June E. Nylen, Pat Hubbard.
All proceeds will be donated to the June E. Nylen Cancer Center.
