EMMESTBURG, Iowa (KTIV) -
In Emmetsburg, Iowa, everyone, from the canines to the kids, got into the Irish spirit.
"I brought George. Today, he is an Irish bulldog. Everybody gets to be a little Irish on St. Patrick's Day," said Rep. Megan Hess, (R) of House District 2.
It's a tradition the town has been celebrating since the 1950s. It's brought families back from school and some from even farther away.
"To see the history, maybe people who've come originally, maybe generations ago from Ireland, have preserved the Irish culture and have enjoyed the celebration of Irishness on St. Patrick's Day," said Marcella Corcoran-Kennedy, an Irish dignitary.
The parade was mostly Irish-themed, and included Irish dignitaries like Marcella Corcoran-Kennedy who were visiting this week.
Some of the entrants in the parade held flags which represented the 32 Irish counties. Dublin is Emmetsburg's sister city.
