SIOUX CITY, Iowa (KTIV) -
Here's something that could have your children a little upset. Tell them the school day could be even longer.
The Iowa Department of Education is purposing to changing how the minimum amount of classroom instruction time is calculated.
The bill has already passed the house.
It would change the minimum from 180 days, which is 990 classroom hours to 1,080 classroom hours.
And, would also extend the school day from 5.5 to 6 hours.
Mike Cormack, the Policy Liaison for the Iowa Department of Education, says total classroom instruction time currently varies across Iowa.
Cormack says the majority of districts exceed or meet 1,080 hours, but some still need to catch up.
