Le Mars, IA (KTIV) -
Music fills the gym at Gehlen Catholic in Le Mars, Iowa.
The school is hosting a jazz festival and clinic. The two day event features eight Siouxland jazz bands.
The students also got a chance to work with some professional musicians.
Chris Vadala is one of the country's foremost woodwind artists, playing with B.B. King, Ray Charles, and Stevie Wonder.
Justin Kisor is a past member of the Navy's Jazz Commodores.
The clinic helps refine the skills of students.
"Learning about harmony and learning to improv. As being a member of the jazz band, we learn to get comfortable and familiar with our instrument," said Jua Wan, Storm Lake Middle School.
"It's really nice with the professionals working with us. They know what they're doing. We know what we're doing, but they make us better," said Julie Paprick, Storm Lake Middle School.
There is a concert Tuesday night at the Gehlen High School gym at 7 with the Gehlen and Sioux City North jazz bands. It's free and open to the public.
