Norfolk City Council approves park restoration

NORFOLK, NE  (US92)  -  The City Council in Norfolk, Nebraska has given their approval for renovations at the city's oldest park.

The decision about Norfolk's Central Park came this week.

Project organizers say improvements to Central Park are long overdue and this is a way to show others that this park is not only part of our history, but remains a valued part of the community.

Upgraded features of the park will include a butterfly garden, a new cover for the park's stage with a removable movie screen and a mural painted on the restroom structure.

An Omaha artist will be collaborating with Norfolk junior high students on the mural.

It is proposed to be done in a "street art" style and is meant to be representative of the community as a whole.

Organizers say they hope to have volunteers ready to start the renovations as early as next month.
