DES MOINES, Iowa (KTIV) -
The Iowa Department of Transportation is preparing rules for where traffic cameras may be installed along interstates and highways in the state.
Sioux City police currently use two portable speed cameras on Interstate 29.
The DOT decided to move ahead with its own rules after a measure to require state permits for new cameras died in the legislature.
The DOT guidelines would require that cities provide data showing that cameras are the best tool to improve safety on the highways.
The department will hold community meetings to get reaction from drivers.
