Mayor Dale Petersen shares a meal with volunteers and seniors at Sergeant Bluff, IA Senior Center.
SERGEANT BLUFF, Iowa (KTIV) -
Eleven Siouxland mayors took some time out to raise awareness about senior hunger Wednesday.
It's part of a Mayors March for Meals Day. Local mayors delivered meals to homebound senior in their communities. Or they did what Sergeant Bluff Mayor Dale Petersen did.
He stopped by the city's senior center where he helped prepare food, and met with folks there.
Petersen says the program doesn't just help seniors, it creates bonds in the community.
"It's important to the community, it's important for fellowship, it's important for the health of those who are older in the community," said Petersen.
Petersen is also encouraging people to volunteer and help with food preparation or delivery to those that are homebound.
