SIOUX CITY, Iowa (KTIV) -

A Sioux City man faces charges after police say he assaulted a man and then held police at bay for more than nine hours.

26-year-old Francisco Bayona Fonseca is charged with criminal mischief and aggravated assault.

Last week, authorities say he got into a fight with another man in the 1900 Block of Pierce Street.

They say Bayona Fonseca stabbed a man in the face with a metal object.

After that, police say he got into a fight with his ex-girlfriend and used a metal bar to damage her car.

Hours later he went into a home on Helen Street armed with a gun and refused to come out.  After several hours, members of the police SWAT team entered the home and got him out.

A preliminary hearing is set for next week.
