The Sioux City Bandits play their home opener on Friday night against the Kansas City Renegades. It will be the Bandits first home game in the new Champions Professional Indoor Football League.
Sioux City won their season opener last Friday, beating Bloomington, Illinois, 62-56. It was the Bandits 29th straight overall win, after going undefeated over the last two seasons in their old league.
KC is 0-1, after losing to Omaha 38-27. The Bandits think the new league will be much more challenging.
"I don't think that any of the teams on our schedule is going to be a walk in the park," said Bandits Head Coach Erv Strohbeen. "Some of the teams we played last year, we knew we were going to win. There were challenging ball games, but I think in this new league, it's going to be like this every week."
"The competition wasn't as good as this new league," said offensive lineman Brian Okonofua. "We always play well no matter what, but it's going to feel good to play against better competition."
The Bandits and Kansas City kick off at 7:05 on Friday at the Tyson Events Center.
