NAIA basketball championship generates millions in spending in Sioux City
SIOUX CITY, Iowa (KTIV) -
The NAIA Division II Women's Basketball Championships brought in an estimated $2.7 million of direct spending in Sioux City and surrounding communities.
As Sioux City hosted the tournament for the 16 consecutive year, attendance for the tournament soared to 33,000 people.
"Sioux City benefits from this tournament on many different levels besides the direct financial impact. This is a great opportunity to showcase Sioux City to a national audience," said Aran Rush, Events & Facilities Executive Director for the city of Sioux City. "Basketball teams from all over the country promote this as their season-long goal to make it to Sioux City. Anytime we can associate Sioux City with success we are moving in the right direction."
The NAIA basketball tournament will return to Sioux City March 12-18, 2014.
The championship is contracted to be held in Sioux City through 2015.
