SIOUX CITY, Iowa (KTIV) -
The FAA will close 149 airport control towers under a plan to deal with the sequester. The control tower at Sioux Gateway Airport, in Sioux City, isn't on that list.
Sioux City's tower will stay open, and save 20 jobs.
According to the U.S. Contract Tower Association, the FAA will close 149 other airport control towers starting April 7th. The only one slated to close, in Iowa, is in Dubuque. None are slated to close in South Dakota. In Nebraska, the Grand Island airport tower will close, but because of a cost-sharing program already in place, that tower won't close until September 30th.
