Curling competition slides into Siouxland

Have you heard of curling?

Made popular by the Olympics, its a sport that draws a loyal following.

Curlers from around Siouxland hit to ice, Friday, to kick off the 3rd-annual curling tournament at the IBP Ice Center.

Practice began Friday night at 6, and the competition starts at 8:00 Saturday morning.

But what's the best part? It won't cost you anything to go.

In fact, because the sport's popularity has grown, organizers have added a third "lane" to the weekend's competition, which allows for another 8 teams to compete.

"It's been fun to see it develop over the years. Our first year we offered it was 16 teams, and last year we had 20, and now we're up to 24 this year. So, it's been something fun to see grow over the years and just increase interest," said Todd Lien, IBP Ice Center Event Coordinator.

Prizes will be awarded for first and second places, and also a special prize for the best uniforms.
