Hinton's Kasey Reuter won the high jump at the Dan Lennon Invite for the third straight year.
For the 32nd consecutive year, the University of South Dakota is hosting the Dan Lennon Track Invitational in the Dakota-Dome. Over 2,000 high school athletes, from Iowa, Nebraska, South Dakota and Minnesota, compete at the two-day event.
The small school competition was Tuesday.
In the semi's in the 60 meter hurdles. Sioux Falls Christian won their heat, but O'Neill's Brandi Walters is a close second in 9.7 seconds. Walters qualified fifth for the finals.
The girls sprint medley relay is a mile in total. The team from Homer, Keeley Ensminger, Kelsey Schmith, Nicole Edward and anchor-runner Brooke Tighe come from behind in the final lap to win their heat.
Next heat of the sprint medley. Sioux Valley of South Dakota wins, but Dani Barelmann of O'Neill runs a strong anchor leg to finish second.
One of the stars of the meet was Hinton junior Kasey Reuter. She won the high jump with an effort of 5'6". The University of Missouri volleyball recruit won the event for the third straight year.
"I was pretty close to getting my mark today," said Reuter. "I set a record here at 5'7" my freshman year, so I would have really liked getting that. I got 5'8" a couple weeks ago at Buena Vista. I didn't really reach the record that I wanted today but it was still a pretty good jump."
There was an impressive team performance in the boys 3,200 meter run. Ainsworth, Nebraska, finished first, second and fourth. Keaton Gracey won the race in 10 minutes, 35 seconds with teammate Hunter Martin five seconds back.
