WAYNE, Neb. (KTIV) -

Police say around 10 a.m. shots were fired along East 7th Street.

Both Saint Mary's Catholic School and Wayne Community Schools went into to lockdown as a safety precaution.

Police cannot say why the shots were fired, but they did arrest 36-year-old Michael Ellis.

He's been charged with discharging a firearm within city limits.

No one was hurt and nothing was damaged.

Around 11:15 a.m. the lockdown was lifted.

Wayne Community School superintendent Mark Lenihan said "during the lockdown students were kept inside their classrooms with their teachers."

He says student safety is their first priority.
