UPDATE: Teens are severely injured after sneaking onto speedway
JEFFERSON, SD (KTIV) -
Authorities say charges are unlikely against a group of teens who snuck into Park Jefferson Speedway Sunday afternoon.
The South Dakota Highway Patrol says even though the race track was closed, three 19-year-old males were able to drive there car around the side and over the track.
They lost control on the soft dirt road, flipping one-and-a-half times.
Officer Tyler Boltjes says two of the teens were ejected from the vehicle.
One was life-flighted to Sioux City's Mercy Medical Center for life-threatening injuries. The other two teens, one from Hinton and the other from Kingsley, were taken by ambulance in less serious condition.
Their names are being withheld pending notification of family.
Boltjes says the Union County Sheriff's Department has indicated that the owner of the speedway has declined to press trespassing charges against the teens.
