Alford leaves New Mexico to join UCLA

After leading New Mexico to back-to-back NCAA Tournament appearances, Steve Alford is heading to UCLA.

Alford and the Bruins agreed to a seven year deal worth about $2.6 million a year on Saturday.

This all coming days after Alford and the Lobos agreed to a new 10-year deal.

The Indiana native replaces Ben Howland who was fired after spending 10 season at UCLA.

The Bruins were upset by Minnesota and the Lobos by Harvard in the second round of the NCAA Tournament.

Alford was the head coach at Iowa before resigning at the end of the 2007 season and moving on to New Mexico.
