SANBORN, Iowa (KTIV) -

Honored by the governor of Iowa for an anti-bullying video they made, students at Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn could hardly wait to meet Iowa Gov. Terry Branstad.

It turns out, Branstad, and Lt. Gov. Kim Reynolds, couldn't wait to meet the students. From kindergarten, to eighth grade, students packed the middle school gym to see Branstad and Reynolds, who were there to recognize the kids for their role in an anti-bullying conference, back in November.

The teachers say it's a great opportunity for their students.

"So, it's a first for our school and being in Northwest Iowa. I'm not saying that they don't come up here very often, but it's a big deal and the kids have been talking about it ever since we won," said Kim Spier, guidance counselor for K-8 at HMS.

After shaking hands with the governor, students got the chance to ask Branstad and Reynolds questions about Iowa, and about working in Des Moines. It's an experience the students say they won't soon forget.
