A tortoise was apparently taken from an exhibit from the National Mississippi River Museum and Aquarium in Dubuque.

It was part of an exhibit called "Turtles: Secrets of the Shell."

Museum staff discovered an adult leopard tortoise, named Cashew, was missing from an exhibit Tuesday.

They believe someone took it between the end of business hours Sunday and Tuesday morning.

Staff members are worried because they say this tortoise requires a special diet and care to stay alive.

The Museum is reviewing security cameras and working with police.

Cashew weighs approximately 18 pounds and is more than 18 inches in diameter.

Anyone with information can call the Museum at (563) 557-9545.
