SIOUX CITY, Iowa (KTIV) -

If you've been by Grandview Boulevard recently, you might have noticed a whole lot of hill is missing.

After taking a winter break, construction crews have resumed work on the new Bishop Heelan High School. They're putting in utilities and laying the foundation for Heelan's Fine Arts wing.

Inside, what is known also known as Phase One, will be a 600 seat auditorium, art, vocal, and band classrooms, a chapel and more.

The new high school will be built in two sections. Officials say they wanted to start with this one for a couple reasons.

"We don't have any designated auditorium space at this time. Also, all the main mechanicals for the entire building are contained in Phase One. It'd be very difficult to build the other half of the building without heat or air conditioning," said BHCS Interim President Dr. Dan Ryan.

Phase One will cost about $15 million and school officials say fundraising is complete. They expect it'll be ready for students in the 2014 school year.

Phase Two will hold classrooms and a gym. That will cost about $10 million. Fundraising hasn't started yet and officials don't have a completion date.

"We're still working behind the scenes, planning, et cetera, on preparations for the final phase of the high school," said Ryan.

The current Bishop Heelan High School is more than 60 years old and there's still a lot of work to be done on its replacement. But, officials say they're excited to watch their dream become a reality.
