Two canines help with therapy at Sioux City organization

A couple of pooches helped some kids with therapy in Sioux City on Saturday.

The Playhouse Pals were at Gigi's Playhouse.

The focus of the event was how the canines can help children with Down Syndrome.

Meeka and Toby, two shelties, visited with the kids at Gigi's as part of the K9 S.T.A.R.S. program.

Their hope is the dogs will assist the kids with various therapies and to just be a companion.

"It shows them that dogs don't have to be aggressive; they don't have to be something scary. An they can relax the kids," said Deb Loger, the dogs' owner.

They also visit local nursing homes, hospitals and schools.
