Nature playscape coming soon to Sioux City

Kids from Siouxland will soon have a place to play surrounded by nature.

The Dorothy Pecaut Nature Center has begun construction for the new Discovery Forest playscape.

The Nature Center received several grants to complete this project.

The playscape is an outdoor play area with natural structures.

The plan includes balance beams, spider web ropes, and a small performing "stage."

A multi-level tree house and raptor enclosure are also under construction.

"Hopefully creating this playscape will provide a place where people can reconnect with nature and the outdoors," explained Naturalist, Theresa Kruid.

The plans also include a water feature including several small waterfalls, stepping stones and a zero-entry access point.

The total project cost is $90,000 and the Nature Center still has $30,000 left to raise.

Construction is scheduled to be complete by mid-June.
