Biggest Loser winner returns to his roots to spread weight loss lessons

He shed the pounds, now he's helping others lose weight too.

Biggest Loser Season Two winner Matt Hoover, a Belle Plain, Iowa native, spoke at the 2013 Wellness Expo in Spencer, Saturday.

Hoover is promoting his book, "Matt Hoover's Guide to Life, Love, and Losing Weight."

He wrestled for Dan Gable at the University of Iowa and had dreams of going to the Olympics.

After he derailed his career, Hoover started to gain weight.  At 400 pounds he had a reality check.

"I remember it vividly, cause I had a bag of chips on my gut, a drink in my hand, watching tv. I was flipping through channels and this show comes on. What it was, was a bunch of obese people running around doing stuff. I thought, 'oh my gosh, look at those guys. I could do that,' and I'm making fun of them. Meanwhile, I weigh nearly 400 pounds when I'm laying on that couch," Hoover remembered.

Booths at the Wellness Expo were designed to get others on a healthy path.  The day started with a 5K.
