Dubuque police investigating potential shooting

The Dubuque Police Department is investigating a potential shooting, albeit one they say looks to have been unintentional.

Police responded to 555 1/2 West Locust Street around noon Monday afternoon. Upon arrival, they found 25-year-old Mykel McLaurin, of that address, with a non-life-threatening gunshot wound to his leg.

Lieutenant Scott Baxter said police do not believe the general public is in danger relating to this incident.

As of Monday around 4 p.m., McLaurin was still in the area hospital where he was taken for treatment.

Police said there is only one known victim and provided no information about anybody else connected with the incident.

The situation is still under investigation.
