It's a big month for big track and field meets in Iowa. The Sioux City Relays are this weekend, with the Drake Relays coming up the following week.
As a prelude, Le Mars held their boys and girls invitational meet featuring Northwest Iowa athletes. It got colder and windier as the night went on in LeMars.

In the girls 200 meter dash, in the middle of the track, Riley Zyzda of Sioux City East finishes first, in 27 seconds.
Girls 800 meters, twice around the track. Bishop Heelan junior Lindsay Joyce has a huge lead and wins in 2-minutes, 20 seconds, about :15 seconds ahead of Heelan freshman Lauren Luft, who was second.
The Crusaders had a one-two finish in the boys 1600 meters. Senior Tommy Thelen cruises home in 4-minutes 40 seconds. Heelan sophomore Ben Eastman was second. Thelen was pleased with his effort.
"Today I'm happy with my time, considering the conditions and things, said Tommy Thelen. "I just ran a 4-by-8 which we won as a team. I'm happy with it for my first outdoor race. I'd like to get a top ten at state in the mile and 4-by-8 and really help my team this year."
The 49th running of the Sioux City Relays will Friday and Saturday, with most of the high school events on Saturday at Olsen Stadium.
