DAKOTA DUNES, S.D. (SUBMITTED) -
The Siouxland Senior Open committee has set Wednesday, May15 for the 22nd annual Siouxland Senior Open, held at Two Rivers Golf Course in Dakota Dunes. The event will crown the 2013 champion senior golfer in Siouxland, award trophies to flight winners in age categories, and raise money for The First Tee and for Sunrise Retirement Community.
Last year's SSO champion was Dan Freed. The tournament champion receives a large silver cup trophy provided by Gunderson's Jewelers and is permanently recognized on the Dale Mogren Memorial plaque, on display in the Two Rivers clubhouse. Freed is also a past champion of the Interstate Tournament, the RiverCade Tournament, the Tri-state Masters, and the Sioux City Golf Tournament.
Lorrie Stedman, Development Director for Sunrise, said the money raised from this year's tourney will be used for the purchase of a wheelchair accessible van and Steve McGrory, Program Director for The First Tee, said their share of the proceeds will go toward the purchase of equipment for young golfers as well as for scholarships for the First Tee program.
Entry fee is $90 and includes 18 holes of golf, cart, gift bag, and dinner at the Dakota Dunes Country Club. A number of prizes will be rewarded for good shots on the course. Golfers of fifty years and older are invited to participate in this annual premier event. Registration forms and additional tournament information are available at Two Rivers or www.ssogolf.com.
