Bishop Heelan seniors Megan McCarthy and Katelynn Poss sign their letters of intent to play volleyball at USD.
SIOUX CITY (KTIV) -- -
Sioux City metro athletes don't have far to go if they want to play NCAA Division one sports. The University of South Dakota is fully "D-1" now in all sports and the Coyote volleyball program picked up a pair of recruits from Bishop Heelan.
Crusader seniors Megan McCarthy and Katelynn Poss signed their letters of intent this afternoon.
The 6'1" McCarthy led Heelan in aces and was second in kills. Poss led the teams in digs with over 500, which was the third highest total in Class 4A.
Last season, they led Heelan to a 36-11 record and into the semifinals of the state tournament.
"I took a lot of visits and when I went to USD it just fit," McCarthy said. "Walking around campus I could just see myself there. The coaches are both really friendly and I just liked it all."
"The main draw was that it was close," Poss added. "I didn't want to go somewhere far away. Just playing volleyball is what I wanted to do and it's close to home. Megan made a decision before me, so, I wanted her to encourage me to go there because I want to play with here another four years."
The Coyotes were 14 and 14 overall last season.
