SIOUX CITY, Iowa (KTIV) -

A program that helps students before and after the school day will get a big grant, despite a criminal investigation involving two former employees.

In January, we told you that two employees are no longer with Beyond the Bell.

According to the Siouxland Human Investment Partnership, they partook in "some questionable credit card expenditures."

Currently, the program receives three grants, totaling $921,000 a year.

One of the three grants will expire this June but be replaced by a new one, which lasts three years.

"Our money from previous years wouldn't have been able to cover all of the kids. It also helps enhance it with transportation. We're going to start a backpack program at some of those schools, for some of the lowest income kids. So the grants really enhance the program," said Matt Ohman, SHIP Interim Executive Director.

17 schools in Sioux City are involved with the Beyond the Bell program, which helps kids with homework in addition to providing recreation and field trips.

The new grant benefits the programs at Emerson and Unity elementaries.
