Bishop Heelan grad David Kerian is tearing it up at Illinois. The sophomore first baseman is hitting .360, which is ninth best in the Big Ten. Kerian is second on the Illini squad with 45 hits and 31 RBI's. Illinois is 24-12 overall and 6-6 in the Big Ten.
At Iowa, Sheldon's Taylor Zeutenhorst is hitting .232, in 17 starts in the outfield. The junior has 12 RBI's with two doubles and two triples. The Hawkeyes are 14-20 overall and tenth in the Big Ten with a 3-9 league record.
Sioux City North product Damek Tomscha has started all 40 games at Auburn. The junior third baseman is hitting .250, and is second on the team with 3 homers, and is fourth with 20 RBI's. Auburn is 24-16.
South Dakota State freshman outfielder Paul Jacobson, from Heelan, is hitting .351 in 19 starts for the Jackrabbits. He's fourth on the team in hits with 26 and has driven in 13 runs.
On the mound, South Sioux's Austin Groth has gone 2-0 in five starts as a freshman at Creighton. He has a 4.32 ERA in 16 innings. The Jays are 22-9.
Cherokee's Cody Ege is 3-1 with a very good, 1.29 ERA for 8th-ranked Louisville. Ege has made 19 relief appearances and has 17 strikeouts in 14 innings. The Cardinals are 30-9 overall.
