Pearl Street project reevaluated after casino announcement

Posted:
SIOUX CITY, Iowa (KTIV) -

A $1.5 million project to reconstruct two downtown Sioux City streets will have to be modified to make way for the Hard Rock Casino.

The initial scope of the project included 3rd Street from Water to Pearl and Pearl from 3rd to 4th.

It's the final phase of a project to redo the road in the historic entertainment district.

However, the portion of Pearl from 3rd to 4th is now expected to become a parking lot for the casino.

Engineers are going back to the drawing board, and hope to come up with a new design in six weeks.
