The Hindu festival is celebrated every April over several days.
Thousands of people turned out in southern India to see a carefully choreographed Hindu ritual.
The ritual involves music, elephants, and elaborate costumes. A troupe of drummers and horn players performed before elaborately decorated elephants that carried different deities from one temple to another. The procession culminated outside a temple and the area was jam packed with people.
The festival is celebrated every April over several days. About 100 elephants took part.
