ONAWA, Iowa (KTIV) -

Onawa, Iowa, students were given a special treat Tuesday. This came after reaching their reading goal.

Former Harlem Globetrotter, Tyrone "Hollywood" Brown visited students at the local elementary school. Brown shared his story of perseverance, and told them about the importance of setting goals.

Despite being cut 15 times by NBA teams, Brown says making the Globetrotters was something he wanted since he was nine years old.

"Hollywood" Brown, as he was known, played with the Globetrotters for 11 years before retiring.

"Whether they want to become a pilot, a doctor, a lawyer or anything, that story reflects on their lives, so they can be determined and not give up," said Brown.

As part of their Read-A-Thon, the students raised more than $9,000. The money will go toward new playground equipment and school supplies.
