Norfolk Chamber lays out plan to help displaced workers

There is a glimmer of good news for the more than 20 workers at the Classen Manufacturing plant in Norfolk, Nebraska.

Classen's parent company, Schiller, announced it was closing the lawn care equipment plant on Tuesday, putting 22 workers out of a job.  But, Norfolk chamber officials tell us their Rapid Response Team met Thursday and put together a plan to help place those employees in other positions in town.  They'll hold meetings for employees and prospective employers next week, and Chamber President and CEO Dennis Houston says he thinks they'll be able to find them jobs.

"Our biggest challenge we have in Norfolk, Nebraska right now is a worker shortage.  We have over 500 jobs by our Norfolk area businesses that can't be filled, right now," said Dennis Houston, Norfolk Chamber CEO.

The "Meet & Greet" for Classen employees is Wednesday afternoon at the Norfolk Chamber starting with a learning session at 1:00pm, and the meet & greet with employers at 3:00pm.  For more information you can call the Norfolk Chamber at 402-371-4862.
