Iowa community colleges join forces to help workers

Iowa's 15 community colleges are joining forces to offer more programs to help workers get jobs in manufacturing fields.

They will use a $13 million federal grant to form the Iowa Advanced Manufacturing Consortium.

It will develop non-credit and credit programs to help more workers earn industry-recognized credentials.

The group will work with employers in advanced manufacturing to identify the occupational skills needed.

"It not only helps them get into the work force, it helps them throughout their career advance in the work force," said Martin Reimer.

Specific fields include welding, industrial maintenance, and robotics.
