Long-time Sioux City educator Nancy Mounts died Sunday at age 77
The Sioux City School District is mourning the loss of a long-time educator and school board member. Nancy Mounts died Sunday after a long illness.
Mounts served eleven years on the Sioux City Community School Board, stepping down in late 2011 due to health issues. Prior to her service on the board, she had been a teacher for many years at Sioux City North High School.
Mounts was a beloved figure in the school district. In 1991, she was named the Iowa Teacher of the Year.
The school district issued a statement reading, "The District is deeply saddened by the passing of Nancy Mounts. Nancy was a passionate educator. Her devotion to our students continued after her retirement when she was elected to the school board. Our thoughts and prayers are with her family."
Mounts was 77 years old. Funeral arrangements are pending with Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel.
