Police chief: Shooting suspect, brother have criminal records
During the search for Jamal Dean, Monday night, police arrested his brother, Levon. Police say the two have been involved in several armed rip-offs of drug dealers.
The two also face charges after police say they robbed a man at gun point last week.
Last Wednesday morning, court documents say the Dean brothers entered the home of Craig Barclay at 4344 Polk Street in Sioux City. Court documents say, at gunpoint, Jamal Dean ordered Barclay to sit down. Documents also say the Deans began unplugging Barclay's electronics, and told him to empty his pockets. Before the brothers left, court documents say Jamal Dean split Barclay's head open by hitting him with the stock of a 22-caliber rifle.
That's the same weapon, police believe, was used in the shooting of Officer McCormick.
When Barclay woke up, he told police his electronics were missing... along with his wallet and cars.
Levon Dean faces charges of robbery, burglary and theft.
