Former Sioux City doctor wins civil case against Siouxland OB-GYN

A jury has awarded a former Sioux City doctor more than a-million dollars following a civil lawsuit against his former medical practice.

According to court documents, Doctor Edward Hagen sued Siouxland OB-GYN, and three of its doctors, in federal court.

The allegations against the doctors included wrongful termination.

Hagen says, in November 2009, he became concerned about the care Dr. Paul Eastman, another doctor in the practice, provided to a patient.

Hagen says when he wouldn't let go of his concerns, he was fired.

After a trial, a jury ruled in favor of Hagen on Wednesday.

The jury awarded Hagen more than a-million dollars in compensatory damages.

In a statement, Hagen he's "very pleased with the outcome, and that the jury agreed with our position."

Dustan Cross, an attorney for the defendants, also sent out their statement.

He says his clients respectfully disagree with the jury's decision.

Cross wrote his clients, quote "fully expect that our position in this regard will ultimately be vindicated through subsequent proceedings."
