A crash involving a semi-truck and a Mid-States school bus transporting students from Battle Creek Public School bus, closed down a large portion of highway 275 west of Norfolk Monday morning.

Nebraska State Patrol officials say the accident happened around 7:15 a.m. Monday morning at the intersection of highway 275 and 549th Avenue, which is in the area of Kelly's Country Club.

Faith Regional Health Services director of emergency services, Ray Sencenbauh, says 13 kids were transported to the hospital.

Eleven were treated with minor injuries and released, while two were transferred to an Omaha hospital with head trauma injuries.

Battle Creek Superintendent Jay Bellar says the students on the bus ranged in age from kindergarten to 8th grade.

The patrol says the driver of the bus is 73-year-old Larry Prauner of Battle Creek, Nebraska and the driver of the semi is 63-year-old Stanley Jauer of Hinton, Iowa.

They say both drivers were wearing seatbelts and weather is believed to have been a factor in the crash with heavy fog in the area.
