Food Bank partners with National Association of Letter Carriers to "Stamp Out Hunger"

The annual National Association of Letter Carriers food drive will be held Saturday, May 11th.

Sioux City letter carriers, as well as some in the surrounding communities, are asking residents to place non-perishable food items in bags near mailboxes on Saturday.

The carriers will pick the items up and help stock the shelves at the Food Bank of Siouxland.

High demand items are canned fruit and vegetables, soups, canned meats, hot and cold cereal, pasta, and boxed or ready-made meals.

"With the incredibly high demand for food," stated Food Bank Executive Director Linda Scheid, "we are really in need of the community's support. This event is a great way to help ensure that we have enough food for those in need. Last year's food drive brought us over 15,000 pounds-a tremendous boost as we work to feed the hungry in all of Siouxland!"

Volunteers are still needed to help sort through donations on Saturday from 3 to 7 p.m. at the Food Bank.

Call 255-9741 to sign up.
