Facelift underway for Morningside's Eppley Auditorium
Morningside College's Eppley Auditorium will open with 1400 new seats in the fall.
SIOUX CITY, Iowa (KTIV) -
Morningside College students are getting closer to having a brand new performance area. Work on $1 million renovation project of Eppley Auditorium started last month.
School officials say, for the most part, the timing couldn't have been better, with the school year wrapping up. The auditorium has been gutted, as crews took out seats, flooring, and wall coverings from the inside.
Now, workers are sanding and painting to pave the way for 1,400 improved seats and acoustical upgrades like lighting and sound systems.
"Anyone who's been at Eppley recently and has had a chance to sit in some of the old seats knows that the old seats at Eppley had definitely seen better days," said Rick Wollman, vice president of communications for Morningside College.
School officials say the auditorium will be completed and ready for use by students in the fall.
This is just one of the many projects slated to get underway at Morningside. In October, the school announced fundraising plans for a $50 million upgrade for several buildings across campus.
