Federal disaster funding approved for 5 northwest Iowa counties

President Obama signs an order providing federal funding to five northwest Iowa counties.

Ice and heavy snow brought down trees and power lines between April ninth and 11th.

The presidential disaster declaration is for Dickinson, Lyon, O'Brien, Osceola and Sioux.

The money will help with both state and local recovery efforts.

Federal funding is also available on a cost-sharing basis for hazard mitigation measures throughout the state.

FEMA said additional designations may be made at a later date if requested by the state.
