Sioux City Explorers manager Stan Cliburn has four exhibition games this week as he cuts his roster from 27 to 22.
SIOUX CITY (KTIV) -- -
The Explorers just started training camp on Saturday, and they'll play all four of their exhibition games this week.
Twenty-seven players are in camp and the roster will have to be cut down to twenty-two before the first game on May 16th. Of those 22 players, a maximum of five may be veterans and minimum of four must be rookies.
Manager Stan Cliburn will use the preseason schedule to see the new players in game situations.
"I haven't seen most of these guys. We hired a new player procurement director this year, Nick Belmonte, and he's done a great job of piecing this club together," Manager Stan Cliburn said. "Nick has done a great job going out and scouting the United States, mostly in the East Coast and Florida. I've been out on the West Coast and California. I'm excited. It's like a kid at Christmas. You know, open up a new Christmas present cause I haven't seen these guys."
The X's and Sioux Falls played Sioux Falls in Yankton on Monday. Sioux City will play at Lincoln on and face Sioux Falls in Huron, South Dakota, on Friday before a home exhibition game on Saturday against Lincoln.
