Siouxland middle schoolers put their math skills to the test

Calculators and mathematical equations filled the campus of Morningside College Wednesday morning.

About 150 seventh grade students from 30 Siouxland schools put their math skills to the test for a two-day math bee.

The morning began with individual competition and a series of five different tests.

After that, students joined their classmates for a team competition consisting of a single test.

The scores were compiled and awards given to the top four individuals and teams.

"It's just a great opportunity for students to improve their skills, because as we all know, math opens the doors to lots and lots of careers," said Celia Stevenson, Instructor at Morningside College.

This is the first year Morningside College has sponsored the competition.

The competition continues Thursday morning with 150 eighth grade students competing.
