Three people are charged with extortion in Sac County, Iowa

The Sac County Sheriff, Ken McClure, says on April 8th, a Sac County resident reported he was being extorted for $55,555 from an unknown male.

McClure says in return for the money, the caller said he would turn over items that may be of embarrassment to the victim.

On April 13th, a money drop was made in Boone as instructed by the extortionist and a surveillance team converged on McHose Park.

The suspects got away but the bait money was recovered.

The sheriff says 36-year-old Andrew Menken of Carroll and 39-year-old Jason Heffelmeier of Buckingham were behind the alleged extortion plot.

Both have been charged with Extortion and Theft.

They were in Sac County Court on May 7th and have been released pending further court appearances.

23-year-old Elizabeth Aschinger of Carroll has also been charged with Conspiracy to Commit Extortion and will be in court on May 10th.

The Sac County Sheriff's Office was assisted by the Sac County Attorney's Office, Iowa Department of Public Safety, Iowa DCI, Sheriff Offices from Carroll, Buena Vista, and Boone County and the Sac City Police, Storm Lake Police, and Boone Police.
