PIERRE, S.D. (KTIV) -

A health center in Elk Point is one of six in South Dakota that can apply for money from Washington to help uninsured people find coverage under the federal health care overhaul.

The Union County Health Foundation may apply for part of about $554,000 in federal funding that is being made available to the Rushmore State.

Officials say the money will allow the health centers to hire new staff, train existing staff and conduct activities to help people understand their options for getting private health insurance or Medicaid coverage.
