SPENCER, Iowa (KTIV) -

He faced life behind bars, but thanks to a plea deal, 21-year old Christopher Fitzpatrick's been sentenced to 45-years in prison.

Authorities say, last August, they found 59-year-old Edward Kitto badly beaten in the backyard of his Spencer, Iowa home.  He was flown to the hospital, where he later died.

In April, Fitzpatrick admitted to the court that he struck Kitto, and stole money from his wallet.

The Spencer, Iowa, man was originally charged with first-degree murder, but pleaded guilty to voluntary manslaughter, 1st-degree robbery, and conspiracy to deliver meth, today.

Fitzpatrick was sentenced to 10-years each of the robbery and meth charges, and 25-years for manslaughter.

However, Judge Carl Petersen said he could serve half that sentence for good behavior.

"You have probably looking at 20 to 25 years depending on your behavior. but everyday you're going to have to think about the fact that Mr. Kitto isn't there to, on this earth to do the same," said the Hon. Carl Petersen.

A second suspect, 21-year old Cody Millard, is awaiting trial.
